Choosing Freshwater Tropical Fish

You enjoy the bright, festive colors of the tropics, and want to be able to emulate that in a home aquarium. This means you'll have to find the right freshwater tropical fish for your tank. There are several varieties for you to choose from, so you'll want to know a little information about each in order to make the best decision.

Some of the most common fish that you'll find in tropical fish aquariums are betta fish, or Chinese fighting fish. People use these fish for decoration, or to spruce up a room in their home, since the fish are bright in color, and have reddish, purple, and orange hues, and have elaborate tails and fins--especially the males.

Being a Tropical Fish Hobbyist

First of all, you'll want to get a real history of fish keeping, so that you will know the best ways to tend to the species of fish you are interested in caring for. Fish keeping is believed to have begun thousands of years ago in Asian countries such as Japan and China, as well as several sections of Europe. Pools of carp were kept in ponds of the wealthy in Europe, mainly to be used as a meat substitute during religious holidays when meat was not allowed.
